While intuitively channelling the energies of the current state of the world, Haythem felt the hearts and suffering of those amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
The pain is translated onto canvas by forming a dark, black heart at the centre of the painting.
Haythem uses contrasting colours of gold, silver, and whites to blend upwards, forming a sprouting tree with its roots implanted at the top of the heart.
The technique he uses takes viewers on a journey of hope, symbolising new strength, rising upwards despite the current state of suffering and trauma.
This is a metaphor, that after pain, comes the budding growth of a new healing chapter.
Haythem also describes how the tree of life symbolises the spiritual nature of air and new breath.
“It is important to take a breath during such unprecedented times – to recognise the powerful healing properties of the heart - physically, spiritually and emotionally” – H. Raslan
